You suspect that food may be triggering some symptoms but you’re really not sure and an elimination diet is all too hard. Is it necessary to take out entire food groups? Or is there a better way, where we can just identify the foods that are the triggers. (Yes there is!)

It’s just that we might need to look at what is triggering this behaviour. In susceptible kids, certain chemicals found naturally and not so naturally in foods can trigger these behaviours. It could be what they are eating and also what they are not eating, so nutrients they are missing out on. Particularly if they are fussy.

When it comes to making changes to your kids nutrition, we need to talk to them about WHY. Not in a lecturing, boring and sciencey way but about how they FEEL. WHY some foods make them feel good and WHY some foods don’t.

Whether it’s your child’s weight or their behaviour, I will share with you the conversation starters and strategies you can use to make these changes. Even the smallest changes to some less healthy habits will make a big difference for your child. It’s never too late to start.
Let me start by saying that no child should ever go on a diet. Growing children need a variety of nutrients and the energy to get them through their busy days. Making changes to your family’s habits may seem overwhelming, but rather than focusing on big scary changes, take baby steps. Make small positive changes every day and focus on being healthy and feeling good, rather than on weight, body shape or mood and behaviour.
